About the Accessibility Maturity Model

This self-assessment tool is designed to help organisations to improve the accessibility of ICT systems, products and services. The tool can be used to develop a robust policy for accessible ICT with reference to existing disability, flexible working and other relevant policies.

  • The AMM approach enables an organisation to make an informed choice about the legal risks of overlooking accessibility. Using the AMM does not guarantee you from legal risk.
  • The AMM is not designed to benchmark your organisation externally but to help your organisation make a decision about your approach to accessibility.
  • The tool can be used by an individual e.g. Chief Information Officer (CIO) to understand accessibility performance at a glance. It can also help a project team to strategically plan and improve accessibility performance.
  • Each organisation will work in a different way and is likely to have alternative approaches and different evidence.
  • The AMM can be used to review internal and external offerings as well as ad-hoc projects.
  • The AMM can be applied as an annual audit tool or built into internal project management processes.
  • The public and private sectors will use the AMM in different ways. For example it will help the public sector meet their obligations under the 'Disability Equality Duty' by working towards level 5 (best practice).
  • This tool has been developed by the Technology Taskforce for the Business Disability Forum.
  • The full AMM tool is currently only available to Technology Taskforce members. Business Disability Forum members can access the AMM scorecard. Click on this link to view the AMM scorecard
